I grew up a North Cascades snowboarder, eventually trading mountain adventures for coastal ones. Surfing and travelling in the Northwest, I discovered that certain board characteristics heightened my surfing experience on our unique waves.  Unfortunately, most off-the-shelf boards weren't equipped with them. This challenged me to create a better riding northwest surfboard and led me into my first garage shaping bay.  

After some trial and error I eventually landed on a few designs that gave me the feel I was looking for and Blackfern was born. A honest and humble backyard surf brand building boards one at a time in Portland, Oregon.  Through these handcrafted custom surfboards, my hope is to provide for and cultivate the pacific northwest surf community, paying homage to this unique and amazing place we call home.
